Beginner swim lessons are divided into three levels: Level I (Bubblers), Level II (Floaters) and Level III (Strokers) Childen must be 3 years of age and older to participate in the group swim lessons. Advanced swim lessons are divided into two levels: advanced beginners and intermediate. All group lessons are held for two weeks meeting 30 minutes per day for four days each week for a total of eight 30-minute sessions.
Level 1—Bubblers - is an introduction to water. These lessons are taught on the pool steps. In the two-week session, we hope to improve the swimmers’ comfort level in the water. The skills practiced consist of blowing bubbles; submerging face, eyes and nose under the water; prone gliding to and from instructor; and introducing back float. These skills will be accomplished through games and repetition. Ages 3 to 8.
Level 2—Floaters - is a continuation of Level I skills and is taught in the shallow end of the northwest corner of the pool. Student must be comfortable holding on to the wall, if not three feet tall. Skills practiced will be prone float and glide on the front and back, freestyle stroke, introduction to back float with kick and winging arms. This level will emphasize rhythmic breathing to the side with much repetition. Ages 3 to 9.
Level 3—Strokers - is to increase endurance in swimming in freestyle and is taught in the southwest corner of the pool The goal of Level III swimmers is to swim a length of the pool using the freestyle stroke with improved technique and rhythmic breathing to the side. Elementary backstroke, as well as diving, treading water and survival floating, will be introduced. Prone float from front-to-back and back-to-front will be taught. Ages 4 to 11.
Level 4—Swimmers - is a continuation of stroke development and focuses on stroke improvement for freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke, and the introduction of breaststroke. Endurance and technique are developed and perfected. The class is mainly taught in the deep end of the pool with occasional lane swimming in the shallow end.Diving and underwater swimming will be introduced and developed. Ages 5 to 15.
Level 5—Racers - swimmers will be introduced to the turns of all four competitive strokes. A minimum of ten yards of butterfly stroke is a goal. Stroke technique and endurance is the main emphasis of the class with five minutes of continuous swimming. Ages 5 to 15.
